Far Alternatives: Belarus and the “Distant Arc” in 2020–2026

The study analyzes the development of Belarus’s relations with “far arc” countries between 2020 and 2026. Particular attention is paid to the dynamics of political contacts, the expansion of diplomatic presence, and the shifting roles of Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America in Belarusian foreign policy.

The findings indicate that engagement in these areas intensified significantly after 2020 and took on a more systematic character after 2024. During the period under review, 455 bilateral meetings, visits, and other interactions with 75 countries and territories were recorded, with the highest levels of activity involving Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

The study also highlights the uneven development of this policy direction. While Belarus is expanding its network of diplomatic missions and seeking new partners in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, activity in Latin America remains concentrated on a few traditional partners. At the same time, the increase in political contacts does not yet allow for a definitive assessment of their economic impact.
