Call for applications for the Third International Academic Conference of the Political Sphere Institute
Theme for 2014:
“Wars in the Political and Cultural Tradition of Belarus and Other Countries of Central and Eastern Europe”

The conference invites papers devoted to the place of wars, uprisings and military conflicts in political and cultural traditions, historical memory, public discourse and identity formation in Belarus and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

Suggested topics include: wars and national narratives; the memory of uprisings and military conflicts; political uses of the past; commemoration and public rituals; images of the enemy and the hero; military experience in literature, culture and education; and comparative approaches to the history of the region.

Researchers, graduate students and experts from Belarus and other countries are invited to participate. Applications should include the title of the paper, a short abstract and information about the author.

The application deadline is 15 March 2014.

The conference will take place in Minsk on 30–31 May 2014.
