The Kremlin Does Not Rule Out Deploying Nuclear Weapons in Belarus

Belarus’s relations with the West have reached the point where Lukashenka, together with officials, has begun talking about the possibility of deploying nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Experts are skeptical about the appearance of nuclear weapons in Belarus
For its part, the Kremlin has stated that it does not rule out a wide range of options.

What problems of Minsk and Moscow could nuclear weapons in Belarus solve?

Or, on the contrary, would they create new ones?

We asked independent experts about this.

Lukashenka recently stated that Belarus could ask Russia to deploy nuclear weapons on our territory, complaining that these weapons had unnecessarily been removed from Belarus.

The head of Lukashenka’s Foreign Ministry, Uladzimir Makei, also noted that nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus are one of the possible responses to future possible actions by the North Atlantic Alliance on the territory of Poland.

The Kremlin also stated that if NATO deploys nuclear weapons near Russia’s border, Moscow will take measures to “balance” the situation.

Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that a wide range of options is possible regarding the possibility of deploying Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Most likely, tactical nuclear weapons could appear in Belarus, notes political scientist Andrei Kazakevich from the Political Sphere Center for Political Studies.
– Most likely, the scenario may be that Russian tactical nuclear weapons appear on the territory of Belarus, or there will be a military base.

In my opinion, there is no discussion of building silos or missile systems.

That is too close to the border and poor from a strategic point of view.

One can intimidate only by deploying tactical weapons.

At the same time, under no circumstances will anyone hand weapons over to Lukashenka’s control.

In addition, the possession of such weapons is an expensive pleasure.

It is doubtful that Belarus would be able to maintain them.
