The journal of political studies Political Sphere is marking ten years since its foundation. Today the journal is a leading specialised publication in political and social sciences in Belarus.
The journal publishes the results of academic research in different fields of political science and related disciplines. All articles undergo anonymous academic peer review. Compliance with scholarly standards, as well as an empirical or theoretical contribution to the understanding of politics, is a necessary criterion for the selection of texts. The publication is included in a number of international databases of academic publications.
On the occasion of the journal’s anniversary, the Institute for Political Studies “Political Sphere” invites scholars, editors and readers to a public discussion on the role of academic and intellectual journals in independent Belarus. The discussion will focus on what has been achieved over the past two decades, what problems such publications face today, and what prospects exist for the development of independent academic periodicals.
The participants will discuss the experience of creating and maintaining specialised journals, the standards of academic editing and peer review, the relationship between research and the public sphere, and the place of Belarusian-language and Belarus-focused publications in the regional academic context.
The event is open to everyone interested in the development of the social sciences and humanities in Belarus.
