Presentation of the Anthology of Belarusian Thought, 2000–2015, on 18 May

On 18 May, the Flying University and the Belarusian Collegium will present the Anthology of Belarusian Thought, 2000–2015, published under the title “Code of Presence”.

The presentation will take place at Gallery Ў, starting at 18:30.

“Perhaps the most important thing that has happened in the country’s life recently is the emergence of a discourse of contemporary Belarusian thought. Without it, Belarus would never have been able to understand and order itself,” this summary by Valiantsin Akudovich refers to the period when such landmark projects in the intellectual history of Belarus emerged as the Encyclopedic Series edited by A. Grytsanau and the Anthology of Contemporary Belarusian Thought edited by A. Antsipenka and V. Akudovich.

The value of anthologies lies not only in the fact that they show the richness and diversity of the material. They create a certain projection, give us an optic that allows us to see the situation fully and holistically, and mark the distinctiveness and difference of this period compared with the previous one.

The time has come to make the next “cross-section” and see the intellectual and cultural contribution brought by the years 2000–2015. The second volume of the Anthology of Belarusian Thought is published under the title “Code of Presence”; by this very name it marks a new stage in the existence of Belarusian thought, its maturation and the formation of clear features. The book brings together texts of different genres and styles: manifestos, metaphysical reflections, critiques of approaches and responses to the challenges of the contemporary world, explorations of the roots of civilisation from the very beginning, and reflections on Belarus “as it is”.

On 18 May at 18:30, Gallery Ў will host the presentation of the Anthology of Belarusian Thought, “Code of Presence”. Speakers and honoured guests will include members of the editorial board Tatsiana Vadalazhskaya, Valiantsin Akudovich, Ihar Babkou, Iryna Dubianetskaya, Pavel Barkouski, authors of the texts included in the Anthology, as well as their relatives and friends. The event will be moderated by Maksim Zhbankou.
