We present to you an interview with A. Kazakevich, director of the Political Sphere Institute, on the International Congress of Belarusian Studies.

Andrei Kazakevich: “The only way to prevent the isolation of Belarusian researchers is to provide them with alternative platforms”
Doctor of Political Science and director of the Political Sphere Institute Andrei Kazakevich notes with regret that today many Belarusian researchers have no opportunity to pursue a full-fledged academic career.

He sees the main reason for this in the considerable conservatism and closed nature of the academic sphere, the lack of scholarly communication, and the great importance of informal clan-based relations within it.

Researchers and scholars who are not integrated into these relations and who have not found a place for themselves in state institutions find themselves in a certain isolation.

The political scientist hopes that the First International Congress of Belarusian Studies, where all interested specialists will be able to gather in order to exchange ideas and present the results of their work to a wider audience, will be a step toward resolving this situation…
