Discussion on TUT.by: Who Will Lead Belarusian Political Science?

Belarusian political science is still at the stage of formation, since as a discipline it began to develop only after the collapse of the USSR.

Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Law of Belarusian State University and Candidate of Political Sciences Usevalad Shymau sees its main task today as adapting accumulated scholarly experience and the discipline’s tools to Belarusian realities. Analyst at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies (BISS) Dzianis Meliantsou believes that contemporary Belarusian political science is going through an embryonic stage of formation, while in state institutions it is developing under very limited conditions, which is natural for non-democratic regimes. At the same time, the guests of TUT-Bava agreed that most ordinary people still do not identify political science with politics, although the boundary between the two activities appears very thin to them.
