Belarus and Belarusians in the Eyes of Lithuanian Residents: Measuring Sympathy and Threat

On 20 March, at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania (Konferencijų salė), within the framework of the First Annual Expert Seminar on Lithuanian-Belarusian Relations, a press conference will be held to present the results of the study “Belarus and Belarusians in the Eyes of Lithuanian Residents: Measuring Sympathy and Threat”.

The study is based on a public opinion survey of Lithuanian residents, with a nationally representative sample of 1,000 respondents.

The study was conducted by the Political Sphere Institute in partnership with Spinter tyrimai and Vytautas Magnus University.

The results reflect the latest trends in the attitudes of Lithuanian residents toward Belarusians living in Lithuania, the Belarusian authorities and Belarusian democratic forces, as well as toward the issue of “Litvinism” and national security threats, the contribution of Belarusians to Lithuania’s economic development, sanctions policy and possible cooperation with Belarus, and other important topics.

A comparison will also be made of attitudes toward Belarusians in Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland and Latvia.

After the presentation, there will be a discussion with an opportunity to ask questions about the study and about problems in relations between Lithuania and Belarus.
