“LITVINISM”: ORIGINS, IMPACT AND CHALLENGES FOR RELATIONS BETWEEN BELARUSIANS AND LITHUANIANS

The round table of Belarusian and Lithuanian historians, politicians and representatives of public organisations on the history of the two nations and the politics of memory intends to initiate a regular discussion among experts, representatives of the public and political organisations with the aim of strengthening partnership ties between the two sides (Lithuania and Belarus) through discussion of current political and social problems and the formulation of proposals for solving them.

During the discussion, the following issues will be analysed and discussed: problems of history and historical memory in the interaction between the two nations, including the prevention of radical and factually unfounded interpretations of the past.

During the discussion, the possibility of creating a bilateral Public Historical Commission composed of representatives of the public and academic circles of Belarus and Lithuania is planned to be discussed.
