The event was attended by representatives of the expert community, a wide circle of Belarusian intellectuals, political figures and journalists.
In their remarks, the editors and authors of the Yearbook (Valeryia Kastsiuhova, Anatol Pankouski, Viktar Charnou, Maksim Zhbankou) noted specific crisis trends that deepened in 2011 in almost all spheres of social life in Belarus.
Professor Uladzimir Dunaeu emphasized the important role of the Yearbook in stimulating public discussion in favor of socio-political transformations in the country.
“Isolation” and “crisis” are the key words that, according to experts, can summarize the trends of 2011.
Comparing 2010 with 2011, the Yearbook’s analysts note that the past year became the “inertial result of the post-election frame” and was marked by a crisis of trust in state authorities, which failed to create a satisfactory reform program, as well as by severe restrictions on opportunities for political activism, a financial crisis and the country’s foreign-policy isolation.
