“Lukashenka and the people around him did not feel safe”
The Belarusian regime still has no confidence that if repression is stopped, it will be able to maintain control over the situation.
This opinion was expressed by former diplomat and now associate analyst at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) Pavel Slunkin during an online discussion of the Expert-Analytical Club devoted to the results of 2021.
What else did the experts discuss?
The end of the Belarusian political model
According to Andrei Kazakevich, Doctor of Political Science and director of the Political Sphere Institute, the main result of 2021 was that the political model that had been taking shape in Belarus from 1996 to 2020 was definitively destroyed.
And if at the end of last year there was still an expectation that everything could return to the state before 2020, it is now clear that this will not happen.
