Study of politics mainly means studying institutions, and institutional study of political life remains an influential field of modern political science. However, this does not remove the problem of the depth of understanding and practical application of the approach. The seminar is organized to meet these challenges. In the years 2015-2016 it will focus on the analysis of policy networks (political networks analysis), and examples of its application in the study of modern political institutions and political history.

The main subjects of the seminar are specific examples of the study of politics and political history through the analysis of political networks (political networks) for a holistic understanding of the possibilities and potential of this method. In particular, the seminar will consider the application of the approach to the study of voting and political participation, social movements, international relations and foreign policy, the political history of the elite, as well as riots and revolutions.

In particular, it will consider the works Roger Gould (Gould, Roger), NOC David (David Knoke), John Padgeta (Padgett, John), Christopher Ansela (Ansell, Christopher) and some others.

Competences. The seminar expects to significantly deepen the participants’ understanding of politics and political history as well as to learn the methods and research analysis schemes as the political history and contemporary political and social processes.

Participants. We invite senior students, undergraduates, doctoral students, teachers of social sciences and humanities, and other interested persons.

Discipline. The workshop is designed for political scientists, historians, sociologists, economists, philosophers and representatives of other disciplines which study politics.

Seminar leader: Andrej Kazakievič – PhD in Political Science, director of the Institute “Political Sphere”, co-director of the Belarusian Collegium.

Schedule. Sessions of the seminar are planned every two weeks on Wednesdays 18.30-20.30. The start is 25 November.
