Belarusian Collegium presents round table “Contemporary literature: relevance of classics”

On 13 February at 12:00-13:30 a roundtable “Modern literature: relevance of classics” will take place. It will be organised in the framework of the 5th international poetic festival “Verses on the asphalt”, dedicated to the memory of Michaś Stralcoŭ in the Literary Museum of Piatruś Broŭka (Karla Marksa st., 30).

Today, literature is clearly losing the significance it enjoyed in the previous era. This turn provides key topics for discussion: can authors of the past say anything important to modern society? Does a modern educated person need to know literary classics? What is the role of classical literature in modern cultural and information space?

Participants: Valiancin Akudovič, Ihar Babkoŭ, Siarhiej Dubaviec, Bohdan Zadura (Poland), Andrej Chadanovič i Liuba Jakimčuk (Ukraine).

Moderator – Iryna Dubianieckaja.

The annual international poetic festival “Verses on the asphalt”, dedicated to the memory of Michaś Stralcoŭ, was established in 2012 by NGOs “Union of Belarusian Writers” and Belarusian PEN-center. Over the years, the festival participants were poets from Belarus, Germany, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Sweden, Finland and Estonia. Among the traditional events of the festival are poetry slams, readings, discussions, book presentations, book series, musical performances and other activities.

It is the second time Belarusian Collegium organises public discussion of acute problems of literature in the framework of the festival “Verses on the asphalt.”
