Call for Nominations for the Congress of Belarusian Studies Prize 2017 (until 10.03.2017)

The Organizing Committee of the International Congress of Belarusian Studies announces the next call for nominations for the Prize for the best publication in the field of social sciences and humanities published in 2015-2016.

The Prize aims to recognize achievements in the social sciences and humanities during the year, encourage scholarly work, and help improve the quality of academic research.

We invite authors and representatives of the academic community to nominate significant results of scholarly activity and thereby contribute to their popularization and to honoring authors for their academic achievements.

Proposals may be submitted to [email protected] until 10 March 2017.

The ceremonial presentation of the Prize will take place at the Seventh International Congress of Belarusian Studies, which will be held on 15-17 September 2017.

Sponsors of the Prize: Belarusian Charitable Trust (London), Belarusian Institute of America, and the Kipel family (USA).

Nominations:
The Prize is announced in three nominations:
– History.
– Humanities: philology, linguistics, art history.
– Social sciences: political science, sociology.

A separate competition is held for monographs and articles.

Attention!

It has been decided to consider publications in philosophy separately, once every three years; the first competition will take place in 2018 and will consider publications from 2015-2017.

Since 2014, the Prize in the Humanities has been merged with the Zora Kipel Prize, which was awarded by the North American Association for Belarusian Studies.

Works may be nominated for the Prize by their own authors or by other people.

Also in 2017, the honorary Congress Prize for the best German-language monograph on Belarusian topics published over the past six years (2011-2016) will be awarded.

The Prize continues the practice, launched in 2015, of identifying the best foreign authors who study Belarus.

Procedure:
The decision to award the Prize is made on the basis of the conclusions of expert councils composed of representatives of the academic community of Belarus and other countries: list of Congress Prize experts (http://icbs.palityka.org/premija-kanhresa/premiya-kangresa-spis-ekspertnyih-radau/)
Works published in 2016 are accepted for consideration, as well as works published in 2015 if they were not nominated during the previous competition.

Main requirements: a text of at least 20,000 characters (a scholarly article, monograph, or other academic form of presenting research results), written by one, two, or several authors (in the case of a collective of authors, the work must be under the scholarly editorship of one person).
