Call for sections and panels of the VIII Congress until 5 March 2019

The Organising Committee announces a call for proposals to create sections and panels within the VIII International Congress of Belarusian Studies. The Congress will take place on 27–29 September 2019 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Sections and panels may be devoted to the discussion of specific research problems or to the presentation of the results of academic work within particular disciplines or research areas. When submitting materials, the Organising Committee does not impose strict thematic or disciplinary restrictions, leaving members of the academic and expert community the opportunity to articulate their own priorities and interests.

Sections and panels may be disciplinary, thematic or narrowly specialised. Applications are also accepted for the organisation of round tables, workshops, public presentations and so on.

The Organising Committee invites research organisations and communities, as well as academic leaders, to take part in defining the thematic priorities of the next Congress.

An application may be either collective or individual. Applicants may be individuals as well as interested institutions and organisations.

The Organising Committee

The organisers and partners of the Congress include: the Political Sphere Institute (Minsk), the European Humanities University (Vilnius), the Institute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (Kaunas), Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas, Vilnius), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and others.

The Congress is the most representative annual academic and expert event, bringing together all major intellectual centres for the study of the politics, society and culture of Belarus. In addition, the Congress provides an excellent opportunity to develop new viable research and civic projects, exchange views and ideas, and establish informal contacts with representatives of expert and academic communities in Belarus and other countries.
The mission of the Congress is to develop a community of scholars, analysts and experts, and to contribute to a deeper understanding of Belarus in the academic and public environment of the country, the region and the world.

Traditionally, the Congress gathers more than 500 scholars and experts from Belarus and abroad, with discussions and presentations expected, as well as the awarding of the Prize for the best academic publications and student papers based on the results of 2018.
