Belarusian Collegium and bookstore “Lohvinaŭ” invite to presentation of the book
“Kastuś Kalinoŭski and the Nation-Building Process in Belarus” (Minsk, 2015).
The figure of Kalinoŭski made a huge impact on the history of modern Belarus. However, it was not only his activities and real historical personality that did it, but also a cultural legend that arose around him and around the uprising of 1863-1864. What role in the formation of national identity plays historical science on one hand, and popular glorification and myth-making on the other? The issues of cooperation between scientific and popular understanding of the past on the example of one of the brightest events of Belarusian history were discussed at the international conference in London in March 2014. Conference materials became the basis for writing this book.

Aliaksandr Smaliančuk, editor of the book, Dr.Hab. in History, Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences,
